RE:BC is a collaborative network advancing responsible tourism in British Columbia.
We work alongside local communities, Indigenous partners, and tourism leaders to co-create initiatives that restore ecosystems, celebrate cultural diversity, and support long-term community well-being. Through education, storytelling, and action-oriented projects, RE:BC promotes responsible recreation and place-based travel that gives back to—not just sustains—the places we love.

what is
Responsible
travel?
Responsible travel goes beyond sustainability—it actively seeks to give back, restore and enhance the places we visit. It asks travellers to participate in solutions that benefit communities, ecosystems, and cultures. Here’s how:
1 – Travel for Net-Positive Impact
Travel should leave a place better than it was found. Regenerative travel encourages actions that give back—choosing locally owned accommodations, supporting Indigenous and community-led businesses, volunteering time or skills, and practicing leave-no-trace principles. Every step you take can help regenerate local environments and economies.
2 – Redistribute the Footprint
British Columbia’s natural beauty draws visitors from around the world—but that attention can strain ecosystems and local infrastructure. Responsible travel means seeking less-visited destinations, respecting seasonal rhythms, and choosing low-impact transportation like public transit, biking, or carpooling. Thoughtful planning helps spread the benefits and reduce the pressure.
3 – Respect for People and Place
British Columbia is home to vibrant communities and passionate residents. When travelling to a new destination, it is important to remember that respect is vital. Learn about the people and places you will be visiting to ensure you behave responsibly on your journey.
